This course introduces students to a Pacific Studies (PS) perspective on the historical, social, political, economic, and ecological reality of Vanuatu and the region. Following a brief review of debates within philosophy of science, students will explore specific PS examples of understanding geography, regional history and culture, social-ecological systems, economy, communication, and identity. The impact of colonialism and modern globalization provides a central focus for this course. Students will complete an applied research project examining particular areas covered in this course.
