This unit will introduce students to the realities of climate change in Vanuatu and the South Pacific.
The unit will be based on an interdisciplinary approach, including scientific and social components of
climate change, using case histories of failures and successes in dealing with the societal and
ecological impact of climate change in the Pacific. Students will learn about the history of climate
change, its causes and drivers, and the issues and challenges of societal and ecological sustainability.
The role of modern production and consumption practices related to modernization and
globalization will be examined, along with proposals for green technology and renewable sources of
energy. Climate change advocacy, funding, and measurement will also be studied.
